The One Thing You HAVE to be doing on your Instagram Photos + Friday Finale

If you want to work with brands, especially as a fashion or beauty blogger, there is one simple thing on Instagram that you have to be doing.

I'd gotten really lazy about this one simple task, but one day a couple weeks ago I was getting ready to post my photo when I decided to go ahead and tag the brands I was wearing in the photo. I went to class and low and behold, when I got out of class imagine my surprise when this brand had followed me on Instagram- Famous Footwear
I was more than a little intrigued. The shot I had posted hadn't really featured the shoes, so I decided to run a little experiment. This time I would post just the shoes as a feature. I snapped this on our road trip to MN. If you like these shoes you can check them out HERE (There's a BOGO 1/2 off right now too!)
This time, Famous Footwear regrammed my photo. Pretty cool right?
Then something even cooler happened. I got an email from one of their social media reps. She thanked me for sharing the photo, and asked if she could have my address to give me a thank you gift in the mail as well. Now it isn't that I am a famous fashion blogger, or have that big of a following. I'm still under 5k! And yet they still noticed me and appreciated my efforts of promoting their brand. (I am seriously obsessed with this company now of course!)

A few days later, I received this sweet note in the mail and two gift cards to buy more shoes at their store. The crazy thing was, this was no strings attached- no blog post or Instagram posts required. (Which of course I'll do anyway, because hello! #fashionblogger) Keep an eye on the blog for the beauties I picked out in their BOGO 1/2 off sale!

So long story short? The one thing you need to do in all your posts is to tag the brands you're using, wearing, and loving. Because those are the kinds of people they want to work with and collaborate with!

  2. That's really awesome! I do the same thing. One time, a brand sent me a pair of kids' shoes so both of my daughters could wear their brand. It was really sweet!

  4. Very cool! I am only hesitant about tagging brands because I am with RewardStyle and if I tag the brand a reader won't necessarily click through my link then.

    1. I can see how that could be a problem! I am quite a small blogger, and I don't think I would have very much luck with RewardStyle. Since my links on my blog don't do that well, I have been hesitant to use RewardStyle. I think if you are happy with the amount of money you are making off that affiliate program I would stick with it and use that money to get whatever you want! ;)
      Thanks for the love!

  5. I had a similar experience. Although I do a lot of travel writing, we were away on a "non blogger" trip. We were staying at a nice hotel for my daughter's soccer tournament. I couldn't help but post a few things on Instagram and twitter, tagging the hotel while we were there. Sure enough, we received all sorts of treats at our room with a very nice not of thanks.

  6. I usually tag cosmetics brands, but this has never happened to me yet! It is so simple, yet I sometimes forget until after the fact, then go back and edit.

    1. It really will! Just keep working on growing your brand, and tagging back to brands you genuinely care about. They will notice eventually! Keep up the great work!

  8. That's awesome! I need to be better about sharing the brands I'm wearing when I post a photo. I do at times and have gotten similar reaction from brands so I just need to be better about doing it better all the time!

    1. I totally agree-- often I just forget in the rush of all the things that goes into editing a post for instagram: edits, hashtags, tagging my photographer, tagging the brands, an engaging caption, etc etc!

    1. It absolutely does. I think it is just about sticking with it and finding the right brands who are willing to work with smaller blogs that they know actually like their product and genuinely care about the brand.
