Step 1: Here you will determine the size of your sign and your base color (or if you just want stained wood!) I went with white because my room is most white and gray!
So I shared the lines with my friend that I wanted on my sign. "I love every aspect of you. I still can't believe that I tricked you into marrying me, that ring really did some magic."
Step 3: Once she found the words, she set about getting them typed into her program so we could start picking out fonts! I told her what I wanted, and she showed me a couple that matched my criteria. Her 2nd or 3rd font was an instant winner.
Step 4: Then she had to start playing around with the words to get them to fit the board...
This definitely took some design skills on her end!
Step 5. She made and placed the stencil meticulously on the board. (This is important for the finished look!)
Step 6: Once they were placed, it was time to paint and remove the small stickers on certain letters like d and a. She had to do that with tweezers and it looked time consuming!
Step 7: Once that was accomplished, it was time for the board's second sanding and a good shot of sealer.
The sign was finally completed after hours of work!! Well I can't really complain, because I sat and drank wine while she did all the work... :)
I put the sign in the perfect place... next to a photo of him proposing, and one from our wedding day.
This sign was given to me by my friend in exchange for this blog post, but I've purchased from her in the past and can honestly say that she does great work! Having someone who can help you find the perfect font and color scheme is so important!

This is incredible! I'd love to do this with lyrics from our first dance song. Definitely putting this on my list of things to try.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!!
DeleteThis is so gorgeous. My hubby & I are about to build a house and I can see me making a lot of these signs for it! What a cute and easy way to make them! I always thought someone with really pretty handwriting was making them. I never would have dreamed it was a stencil!
ReplyDeleteRight?! It was a lot of work though, I'm happy my friend did it, she has such skill! :)
DeleteAww, this is so sweet and you did such a great job! Wish I had the same crafty skills, but I always tend to mess things up in the first step ;)
ReplyDeleteMy friend did it actually ;) I'm definitely on the mess it up side too. haha
