If you want to work with brands, especially as a fashion or beauty blogger, there is one simple thing on Instagram that you have to be doing.
I'd gotten really lazy about this one simple task, but one day a couple weeks ago I was getting ready to post my photo when I decided to go ahead and tag the brands I was wearing in the photo. I went to class and low and behold, when I got out of class imagine my surprise when this brand had followed me on Instagram- Famous Footwear.
I was more than a little intrigued. The shot I had posted hadn't really featured the shoes, so I decided to run a little experiment. This time I would post just the shoes as a feature. I snapped this on our road trip to MN. If you like these shoes you can check them out HERE (There's a BOGO 1/2 off right now too!)
This time, Famous Footwear regrammed my photo. Pretty cool right?
Then something even cooler happened. I got an email from one of their social media reps. She thanked me for sharing the photo, and asked if she could have my address to give me a thank you gift in the mail as well. Now it isn't that I am a famous fashion blogger, or have that big of a following. I'm still under 5k! And yet they still noticed me and appreciated my efforts of promoting their brand. (I am seriously obsessed with this company now of course!)
A few days later, I received this sweet note in the mail and two gift cards to buy more shoes at their store. The crazy thing was, this was no strings attached- no blog post or Instagram posts required. (Which of course I'll do anyway, because hello! #fashionblogger) Keep an eye on the blog for the beauties I picked out in their BOGO 1/2 off sale!
So long story short? The one thing you need to do in all your posts is to tag the brands you're using, wearing, and loving. Because those are the kinds of people they want to work with and collaborate with!

I always tag the brands I am using in my home decor posts. I love how they recognized you, regrammed and promoted you, and even sent you gift cards. I'll keep tagging!! Love you outfits!1
ReplyDeleteThat is so great to hear! Thank you for the sweet compliment as well!
DeleteThat's really awesome! I do the same thing. One time, a brand sent me a pair of kids' shoes so both of my daughters could wear their brand. It was really sweet!
ReplyDeleteThat is extremely sweet! Love brands like that and it just makes us more loyal of customers in the long run!
DeleteGreat advice for Instagram ... can't wait to see what shoes you pick out next. Have a fabulous weekend.
ReplyDeleteXX,
Lauren
Thank you so much! You're so sweet!
DeleteVery cool! I am only hesitant about tagging brands because I am with RewardStyle and if I tag the brand a reader won't necessarily click through my link then.
ReplyDeleteI can see how that could be a problem! I am quite a small blogger, and I don't think I would have very much luck with RewardStyle. Since my links on my blog don't do that well, I have been hesitant to use RewardStyle. I think if you are happy with the amount of money you are making off that affiliate program I would stick with it and use that money to get whatever you want! ;)
DeleteThanks for the love!
I had a similar experience. Although I do a lot of travel writing, we were away on a "non blogger" trip. We were staying at a nice hotel for my daughter's soccer tournament. I couldn't help but post a few things on Instagram and twitter, tagging the hotel while we were there. Sure enough, we received all sorts of treats at our room with a very nice not of thanks.
ReplyDeleteThat is way too cool!! Thank you for that tip- I'll have to try that next time I'm at a hotel.
DeleteI usually tag cosmetics brands, but this has never happened to me yet! It is so simple, yet I sometimes forget until after the fact, then go back and edit.
ReplyDeleteIt really will! Just keep working on growing your brand, and tagging back to brands you genuinely care about. They will notice eventually! Keep up the great work!
DeleteYes, tagging brands is super important! I always tag brands and other relevant accounts that might want to regram.
ReplyDeleteVery true! It could really make a difference!
DeleteThat's awesome! I need to be better about sharing the brands I'm wearing when I post a photo. I do at times and have gotten similar reaction from brands so I just need to be better about doing it better all the time!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree-- often I just forget in the rush of all the things that goes into editing a post for instagram: edits, hashtags, tagging my photographer, tagging the brands, an engaging caption, etc etc!
DeleteAwesome post! I've started tagging brands in posts because I heard this great advice!
ReplyDeleteI also love your Sunday cravings post. I want everything in it. Especially all the bags I'll never be able to afford either!
Oh girl! We are shopping soul mates! Thank you for letting me know you enjoyed it- that really means a lot to me!
DeleteYes! I always tag brands in my photos and have some of them wanting to feature my photo! So awesome Famous Footwear sent you a giftcard!

That is so awesome! you post the cutest things so I am not surprised!
DeleteAwesome! Congrats! Thanks for sharing, I was really curious if this type of thing happends for smaller accounts as well.
ReplyDeleteIt absolutely does. I think it is just about sticking with it and finding the right brands who are willing to work with smaller blogs that they know actually like their product and genuinely care about the brand.
Deletewow! that is incredible. thanks for sharing. totally pinning this post as we speak :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so helpful to me, so THANKS x 100 for pinning!

It really is such a great tip and one I forget about too sometimes! But brands are always on the lookout for bloggers who actually love their products already. Thanks for sharing your experience, super inspiring! :)
ReplyDeleteI totally love that it helped you feel inspired! Even smaller blogs can do it like mine!! I completely agree they are looking for people who love and support their brand prior to getting freebies :)
DeleteGreat post - it's true that acknowledging designers, photographers, and other entities in our posts will pay off as it did handsomely for you!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! Share the love and sometimes it gets shared right back!
DeleteSo great! It is so key to tag brands! Congrats on the feature and gift card!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so so much!!

What a great point that I really hadn't thought much about. I post on IG about home, not fashion, but a similar concept would apply, I'm sure! Thanks for sharing! And, HOW NICE of Famous Footwear! That is awesome.
ReplyDeleteAren't they sweet?! They didn't even demand I share on social media or my blog, so of course I WILL! :)) Glad you found it useful, I'm sure it would work for home decor just as well!!
DeleteAmazing how powerful social media marketing is! An excellent tip for increasing your visibility!
ReplyDeleteThanks girly! Glad you enjoyed :)
